Joined to help a friend with a 2013 FIT Sport Automatic
Hello folks, will be popping in and out a bit. I joined to gain information on a friends Fit. She is being inundated by the dealer with horror stories of things she must do to her vehicle. And the prices being quoted are astronomical. I am a retired Fire Department wrench and very good shade tree mechanic. So I volunteered to do a few things for her. What I am browsing for right now:
1) Service manual either electronic or paper.
2) Serpentine belt change instructions.
3) Transmission fluid change instructions
Her vehicle just rolled over 30,000 miles. As a single female with no experience with vehicles she looked at the dealer service report and freaked out. Serpentine belt failed inspection. Auto trans fluid failed inspection. Front tires failed inspection. (The tires have about 15,000 miles on them)
She had 2 nail holes in tires and the dealership has her so scared about warranty that she paid about $250.00 per tire to replace those.
Now, I understand proper maintenance and warranty. But this is pathetic.
Any help on the above items would be appreciated. I figure the belt is easy. Tight area but access from under or on top. Saw the one thread on it.
Trans fluid looks to have a drain and fill 4 times type procedure.
Manual may be scarce.
Thanks folks
JB

Owner is always free to decline upsells. LOL
Get in the glove box, find the owners manual. Read up on "maintenance minder". It tells how the system lets you know what services are due, (but it probably won't tell you when they may pop up).
All service indicators come along with the usual oil change in the minder system. It will never show a service item without the oil change reminder (wrench) but you can go into the minder and force it to show the next intervals' service code(s) by doing just the first half of the reset procedure.
==================
At 30k? Did the wrench symbol (and 15% notice) come on for the oil change, or is that why it was at the dealer?
The minder system would have asked for the air and cabin filters somewhere after 24k. Were they replaced already?
Trans service interval probably hasn't come up yet, I think it may pop up at a next service after 32k.
At my dealer we recommend trans drain and fill every 30k...because in the past Honda had a less than stellar track record for transmissions and every little bit helps. (their transmissions have improved dramatically since the early 2000's though)
-------
Single drain and fill on the trans.
Use Hondas ATF DW-1 ONLY
Drainplug takes a 3/8" square ratchet, and fill through dipstick tube.
Start with 2.5 quarts then check it.
Check fluid level with the engine OFF, within 90 seconds of turning the engine off.
Fluid should be checked hot, so if it is cold put it to the low line then drive it to get it warmed up, and recheck.
-------
No need for 4x ATF at this point in its life, we save that for contaminated fluid, severe neglect, or real problems.
(My personal and family cars get ATF service with every other oil change, sometimes more often than that. Every used Honda I have bought got a 12 quart ATF service before going on the road.)
==================
Belt? LOOK at it. It looks almost new.
The drive belt is EPDM rubber, it will probably last 10 years/100,000 miles or longer before showing signs of cracking.
==================
Service manuals from Honda are all online now.

You can look for paper manuals, and I'd try the local library as many have subscriptions to sources like Alldata and Mitchell.
Let me know if you want more info
