Wider tires

Wider tires
I drive a 2016 honda fit lx. Is it possible to use wider tires using the original steel wheels? Currently, the tires are the original 185's. I am thinking of using 195's or 205's for all 4 tires. The reason I want wider tires is to get more traction on curves at high speeds. Any suggestions?

It will hurt your mileage and acceleration. Just keep the same size tire and go to a better tire.(Tirerack.com CONTINENTAL PROCONTACT TX or goodyear eagle LS,,, Examples...) Then do a Light suspension upgrade. Tokico or KYB / HP gas struts and shocks. Make sure you have a sway bar on both ends.
This should make it corner and keep the rolling resistance down so you keep your mileage.

I was running 205/50/16's on my GE, but 7" width. It looked great and gripped very well.

Just another thought to stir the pot a little, if you look at a formula V race car they are limited to tires that are < 6' wide. Have a 1200 CC air cooled bug motor, They only make about 50 HP. They turn some of the fastest laps on race circuits, if the driver is good. They are only seconds slower than cars with a couple hundred hp and 14" wide rubber. Its not "all" about width.. (They are on race tires.. ) Sometimes its momentum and skill..
