Fit's of all generations do much better than you would think in an accident. Really though, all modern cars are darn good.

Keep in mind with your research that the best way to not get injured in an accident is to avoid it all together. Can't avoid them all, but think of how many times on a regular basis you have to dodge bad drivers. To that end, besides crash test results, look at the vehicles 0-70 stopping distance, skid pad numbers, and even 0-60 acceleration. If you drive at night, also look at headlight ratings. Many cars sold in the US have abysmal lighting.

Also, keep in mind with the crash testing that they look at stagnant numbers and rarely do a test where they crash a large car into a small car. At the end of the day, mass will always win.

Just wanted to add...look at the data, but don't go too crazy. At the end of the day, you won't be driving a spreadsheet. Make sure you like what you buy.

Thanks again for letting me know about these other safety numbers. Update: I tested out the subaru impreza, civic hatchback, and the corolla hatchback- all automatic. They are definitely great cars with a lot of accident prevention features. The corolla and impreza even have the seventh knee airbag. Sometimes, I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the bells and whistles with the large displays, flashy car-cell phone connections and things like that. I do want safety features like blind spot monitoring but I don't like how those features are typically bundled up with a bunch of other things like heated seats or moon roof etc.

Anyways, it's been a learning experience- thanks again for providing all these other aspects to look into!
