hi guys i bought the element maplight and was wondering if there is any way to wire it so that it will come on when the doors are opened like the dome light and can also be turned on and off independently like the dome light when it is in the on position?

Yes, it can. Someone else has a DIY thread for this, specifically using that same map light, I believe. It involves some soldering, I think, because the map light isn't designed to be able to function in this way stock. If you peruse the lighting forum you should find it.
