HIDs and loss of high beams

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone here has installed the HID kits that are straight low beam only. Since the fog lights turn off when you use stock high beams, does it cause any problems with the fog lights not turning on? I remember this was a problem with some other cars before. I tried searching the forums but "HID" is too short of a search parameter. Thanks for any input

Not exactly sure what you are asking...
With HIDs on and switched on High Beams, the fog lights will turn off, and if its a single beam HID, nothing will be on. If its a dual beam HID, then the high beam part will turn on.

Is this what you're asking?

Yea man that's what I'm asking. So basically it will be fine with the single beam HIDs. Just wanted to be sure, thanks!

the fog lights do not turn on, but if you ground out the top connection on the headlight connecter the fogs turn back on, but the high beam light on the gauge cluster is always on

Thanks for your input siccmonkey. My other car is an MR2 and I remember some guys running into trouble when upgrading to low beam only HIDs. They would get the high beam light on the gauge cluster always on, and lose their foglights. I just wanted to make sure that this wouldn't happen to my Fit if I went with HIDs

Okay, let me try this again.

Original headlight bulb: H4
H4 is a dual filament bulb (if you look cloesly, you can see 2 filaments inside). One filament is for the low beam and the other is for high beam.

For HIDs, instead of filaments, the light is produced through an arc of light. (Most kits can only produce one arc per bulb)
That means, only one beam of light can be produced. In this case, only low beams. Because of customer demands, companies tries to get both Hi/Low out of an HID kit.

So some companies put a sheild over top to block some of the light for low beam, and open up the shield all the way for high beam (when u flick on the high beam switch).

There are kits in which the HID bulb slides in and out. This is to duplicate the 2 filaments. By moving in and out, it can take the spot of the low beam and high beam.

There are ones in which they put a small halogen bulb right beside the HID bulb to function as the high beams. The beam pattern sucks when you turn on the high beams, but its just a difference in light pattern/ light output, so that people can notice you.

Lastly, about fog lights. Fog lights ONLY turn on when you have your low beams on. (assuming you didn't rewire anything). So if you have just your parking lights on, your fogs will not come on. If you have your highbeams on, the fogs will turn off. Oh, one

I hpoe this helps answer your question.

-Sherman

EDIT: It does not matter what you have in your low beams (HID or Halogen), the fogs will ONLY turn on when your low beams are on.
