Hardwire Valentine One in Fit
Hardwire Valentine One in Fit
I just recently got a Fit Sport for my long commute. I already have a Valentine One that I've had for a couple years (it has save me countless times). I'd like to hardwire it and was wondering if anyone here on the forum has done this. I've done it on other cars myself but those all had sunroofs so there was an easy to get to electrical charge where I could grab power from.
I'd like to have the power cord come up above the dash not by the rear view mirror due to the fit's interior. If anyone has any pointers/tips they are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have a V1 hardwired in my Fit, although it is by my mirror not on the dash as you want. I used a Scotchlock RadioShack.com - Cables, Parts & Connectors: Connectors & connectivity: Crimp connectors & terminals: Wire Tap-In Squeeze Connectors (10-Pack) to tap into the cigarette lighter for power and put the Direct-Wire Power Adapter inside the under dash panel on the passenger side. I used these RadioShack.com - Cables, Parts & Connectors: Wire & cable management: Wire clips & holders: Telephone Adhesive-Backed Clips (9-Pack) to run the wire up the side of the dash, I then tucked the wire under the passenger side windshield pillar trim (using caution as this is also an air bag) and headliner to the mirror mount. I also have a Concealed display mounted in the "cubby hole" by the small window on the drivers side. I used the same clips to run the wire up the side of the dash for this too. I used one of these The Radar Mount for the Escort or Beltronics to mount the V1 to the mirror as I have an aftermarket mirror, this mount WILL NOT work with the factory mirror.

I have "almost" the same setup as Spreadhead, and I'll add these notes:
- Mine is mounted just above my mirror, on the passenger side, using the stock mount.
- I, too, quick connected to the lighter plug wire (and posted how to do this a looooonng time ago - last May or so?) I ran my wire up the driver's-side pillar , behind the airbag, above the headliner, and it comes out behind the mirror and goes to the V1.
This was very easy to do, and I've not had any problems with the V1, the mount, or the wiring, in any way.

Thanks for all the info! Very helpful.
I am going to try and see if there is some power near the glove box so i can hopefully get power there and run the wire beind it up to the wind sheild. I'll keep you posted!!

What type of mirror and from where please.

Its not a Valentine but I used a 1" strip of velcro, hook side to dashboard, fuzzy to detector. It almost catalevers but my silicone mirror wiper is folded beneath it. It acts as a suspension system. The mute button is a direct wired feature and it saves a long reach to the unit when its sounding off. The pigtail power lead rolls up and stores in the change pocket.
It looks crude but all is easily stowed from view. Forgive the mess in the foreground. The tarped-over Unimog is another project.

For some reason, I am not allowed to post attachments, but the pictures here can give you a pretty good idea of my set up

its pretty simple. just find a 12v ignition powered source. you can wire the power wire to the ACC or cig lighter plug fuse in the interior fuse box. cram a piece of the wire into the one of the slotsand jam the fuse into the wire to hold it.
for ground, just find any bolt that attaches to the body and loosen bolt, tie, tighten.

I've had my V1 for 10+ years and it keeps going. I have to agree with radareclipse... the V1 gives you more info (with the arrows) than any other radar detector out there and good radar detection is about education, not just slamming on the brakes when you hear a BEEEEEEP. - that's just dangerous.
for those interested... here's my V1 How-to on Fitfreak & my Cardomain Page. I don't tap into any wires but use an Add-a-Fuse to hard wire.
Hope it helps.
