Just installed a Sirius Sportster 4 - aux jack question inside
cliffs - i've looked but can't seem to find if there's a way to tap into the wiring for the sport's audio aux jack. any hints on this would be appreciated.
good lord, what a day.
1. routed the antenna through the liftgate, down the driver's side rear pillar and under the driver's doorjamb trim. special thanks to the member who posted pics of their install, they helped tremendously.
2. got the center console out (props to college hills honda's pdfs). broke both clips in the front and the parking brake cover because i have no grace (replacements already ordered). lesson learned - if it feels like you're pulling to hard, you probably are.
3. got perplexed by the aux input's proprietary 4-pin harness, gave up on tapping into that for a direct audio connection underneath (settled on plugging into the jack instead).
4. took apart the power supply for the sportster to discover, um, electronics and whatnot. the sirius1 and xact that i had previously hardwired were 12v (no sweat - snip off the lighter socket, put in an inline fuse holder, you're in business).
the sportster 4 is 5v. of course, i had already trashed by power supply (because details are for wimps and the prepared), so back to the store to get a new one. they don't sell just that plug, it's a whole car kit. i bought a whole new radio instead - it was $20 cheaper than the car kit. so, um, anybody want an inV without a lighter adapter cheap?
5. mounting the unit - i used the vent clip, slipped it in between the center console and the bezel for the stereo/hvac controls down in the cubby by the cupholders ... after trying auto adhesive tape, 3m mounting tape, voodoo, and force of will to get that stupid suction cup thing to stick. the vent clip provides decent placement and a pretty stable fit, should have tried it first. routed the yards of extra cable through the same minute opening between the cc and dash.
6. came home, found out about the 12v vs. 5v sirius issue, found in-line converter, ordered one.
so, long story short - it's not as clean as i'd like, but it'll do for now. getting the power hardwired will make a world of difference. if anybody knows how to tap into the wiring for the aux audio jack ... feel free to link, write, or exclaim "do a search n00b1!!11!"
