I want Alpine Type-R Speakers (crutchfield.com fitment guide WTF'edness)

Ok. I want to get some Alpine Type-R's for my Fit Sport. The 6.5" SPR-17C's sound so damn good. I have not heard the 5.25" SPR-13C's (in the same line, just smaller). I obviously want the bigger ones, but crutchfield.com says no.

Here are the size specs for the 2 models taken from the Alpine website:

SPR-17C
Woofer Mounting Depth (in): 2-1/2"
Woofer Mounting Depth (mm): 63.2mm
Woofer Mounting Diameter (in): 5-5/16"
Woofer Mounting Diameter (mm): 135.2mm
Woofer Diameter (in): 6-1/2"
Woofer Diameter (mm): 165.1mm

SPR-13C
Woofer Mounting Depth (in): 2-9/32"
Woofer Mounting Depth (mm): 57.7mm
Woofer Mounting Diameter (in): 4-19/32"
Woofer Mounting Diameter (mm): 117mm
Woofer Diameter (in): 5-1/4"
Woofer Diameter (mm): 133.35mm

The crutchfield.com fitment guide says that the 5.25" SPR-13C speakers are the only ones that will fit the Fit. This seems strange because the speakers in the Fit are 6.5" with a mounting depth of 67mm (information i found by using the forum search function here). Can anybody confirm those figures and tell me why the SPR-17C's won't fit? Or is the crutchfield.com guide incorrect here?

I believe when they do that they're saying NO because its NOT a DIRECT DROP IN install. You'd probably be able to do it with a spacer, given the speakers installed we've seen on the board by other members.

I have installed these and its definitely not direct drop in. The spacers do not help at all due to the Magnet being so large. I actually had to cut the opening in the door to accomodate the massive magnets. The Alpines come with a Honda OEM Adapter that looks just like the original and mounts without adding holes which is nice. However the magnet does not fit and if you space any further will not be able to put the door cover back on. Sound great though even off of stock radio which is what I tested with. Have not added a amp yet though but could only imagine how these would sound with more power. If you do not want to cut your door then the 5.25" models may make more sense to you. Good luck. . .

Ahh. Thank you for this invaluable information! So it is the diameter of the magnet that is the culprit here? I guess I'll go with the 5.25" model and hear how they sound.

None online that I know of. But you can't demo a pair of speakers over the internet. Visit a few shops and see what they have. (not big box stores but actual car stereo shops)
