Poor Quality MP3/WMA Player
Poor Quality MP3/WMA Player
I have had nothing but problems trying to create MP3/WMA discs that play reliably in my '07 Fit Sport. I have tried different brands of disc, different burner drives, different burning speeds, session open, session closed, disc-at-once, track-at once in numerous combinations and the bottom line is that the player will crap out any time it tries to play track # 22 after playing track #21 - regardless of disc. The only disc it can play reliably is standard audio.
Since these discs play in every other CD drive I own, including my daughter's '05 Civic (w/factory audio), I can only conclude that the reading mechanism in the factory CD/MP3/WMA player is crap. This was just verified by my dealer who tried multiple CDs in other Fits with the same result, so no warranty audio replacement for me.
Thanks for letting me vent...

i use itunes and burn hundreds of mp3's onto cds and they have always played and shown disc and album info without a problem. perhaps you should try different software i have used a couple of different types and found that itunes under mp3 burning mode not data creates a operable disc every time so as long as the music isn't in protected aac codec. good luck. hopefully this doesn't mean your stuck with a bad stereo, hope that you find a solution
Many thanks to those who have responded. Your messages showed me some variables I had not considered before, such as a different burning program, etc.
While I haven't exactly been working diligently on finding the answers, I did try a few things with some success:
Thanks for your suggestions and I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy holiday season.
While I haven't exactly been working diligently on finding the answers, I did try a few things with some success:
- Different burning program: No effect
- Burning a CD with only MP3s on it (I had previously mixed and matched formats on the same CD): Apparently successful! The CDs I have burned that only have MP3s and no WMAs on them seem to be pretty solid.
- Burn with WMAs only and see what happens
- If it works, then it would appear to be a limitation of the player in not liking mixed formats on the same disc
- If it doesn't work, then more investigation needed
- Possibly "non-standard" WMA-encoding software
- There are many WMA sub-formats: Media Player 9.2 Lossless, MP 9.2 lossy, MP10, etc. I may have to try them all eventually, as I prefer the WMA codec to MP3 in terms of the resulting sound quality.
Thanks for your suggestions and I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy holiday season.
I have mixed (wma and mp3) on the same disc and they all play fine.
All my wma file names are also cut short. I suspect the name thing is the player. I've been using WMP 11 to burn my CD's but I couldn't tell you what version the wma format is.
