Question Finicky CD player, frequent "bad disc" errors

Hey all. I have a 2009 Fit, Sport package without navigation. My CD player has been having issues lately -- I frequently get the dreaded "bad disc" error when trying to play CDs that were previously playable. I ran a CD cleaner through at least 12 times in an effort to clean the head, which has had mixed results... sometimes the disc will play, other times it will play but get stuck on a certain track, other times it'll immediately spit it out with the error.

These are all audio CDs - not WMA/mp3 data CDs. "Legit"/commercial CDs (aka ones I bought in a now-defunct FYE ) have a better success rate of playing than burned CDs, even if they're older and have more wear than a newly burned CD.

Has anyone else had this issue? I still need to bring the car in to get the airbags replaced, so am wondering if they can pull the CD player out and clean out any junk/dust while they're in there... but I also don't want to get hosed by the Honda dealer because they want to put in a new player.

Thanks all!

-KC

I have an '09 Sport as well but have never used the CD player. I prefer to hear the horse power unleash when driving. LOL

Sorry I was of no help. (I've really never used the CD player.)

I have a 2009 as well and my CD player hasn't been able to read CDs since about 2012. Your description sounds similar to my experience. It may just be coincidence, but it only started having reading issues when I started playing mp3 CDs a few years after I bought it. Tried running a cleaner as well, but no effect. I chalked it up to the generally dusty environment in Calgary Alberta.

Ugh. SO frustrating! I tried playing one on my way home today and got through one track (and it was noisy, you could definitely hear the disc spinning) before it got stuck.

Does anyone know if this player/radio is seen on any other Honda models? (e.g. Civic)

Glad to see somebody else has had this issue. I had my cd player replaced and that lasted about a week (2011) until the same bad disc message came back. As it took a couple of days last time to replace it, and it was still under warranty, I never brought it back and have used the mp3 player for most of the cars life.
i was thinking it might be a software problem but have never seen it commented on.

Given the age of the vehicle (and not to mention this thread lol) it might be better to just replace the head unit with something cheap that has bluetooth...
