New HU with Metra kit

I recently replaced the stock head unit in our '07 Fit Sport with an Alpine single DIN unit and the Metra dash kit. The install was about as I expected...it took about three hours...the longest part was getting the stock HU out without tearing up the surrounding dash. Managed to do that and get the new Apline installed and the whole HU/dash kit assembly back in the car.

The results: the color and texture on the Metra kit were pretty close to the original dash. However, fit isn't as good as I would like. The right side of the kit (passenger side) and top of the Metra kit fit very well. However, the left side down by the the HVAC controls doesn't fit too well. It's as if the mold on the Metra kit was about an eighth of an inch too narrow, leaving that much exposed of the honda dash underneath. I didn't recall anyone mentioning this in any of the other posts on this site, so I thought I would put in my 2 cents.

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on doing something like that in a couple of weeks.

I did mine yesterday too.. getting the radio out was a pain, instructions were horrible.. Fitment of the kit is piss poor.

the Alpine CDA-9887 is about the most wonderful looking unit ever.

I managed to break all but one metal clip while removing the stock unit.

I will be running power cables this weekend for the my PG amp and JL 10W0 sub.

Both the Metra and scorche kit are hit or miss on fitment. Because it's very flush fit and there's no leeway it's had to make a mould for this type of dash. My first Metra kit fit poorly. So I sent it back and got another that fit alot better. Please remember they are mass produced and have to fit a very complex dash. there are certain "tolerances" they have to allow.

Injundon, I agree completely with your post.

It doesn't take much to realize that making an aftermarket dash kit to fit the rather complex curves plus the HVAC control section would be fairly difficult. Compound that with typical production tolerances and the miss on the fitment that I've experienced is expected. I'm glad that the portions that don't fit too well are the lower left HVAC control area (i.e., a bit harder to see without actually looking for it).

My daughter is happy to have the new Alpine with iPod control in her Fit...that was the primary goal for changing it.

Cheers!

the bottom was the only part that didn't fit perfect.

Kinda sucked that i gouged the hell out of the dash getting the stock unit out. LOL.

I should get the rest of my gear in the mail today and attempt to finish up the sub installation.

I have the Metra kit aswell. I really don't like how cheap the HVAC portion looks. Otherwise, it doesn't fit THAT bad. It's not OEM. But then again, for $50, I wouldn't of expected it to be EXACTLY like OEM.

I was just saying that the stock setup for you car is very unappealing or ugly as balls or simply... balls.

I found this on an Australian Jazz forum ironically call Honda Jazz Club Australia. Who'd a thunk it. Heh. Anyways, you should be able to find the answers that you are looking for there.

Genuine Honda Jazz Audio Double DIN and brackets (KIT)
