Shorter Shifter

While waiting for my Skunk2 short shifter kit to come in, I decided to try and shorten my shifter on my own. I have always noticed how tall the stock shift knob is and decided to take a few measurements...

I found out that there is a lot of wasted space inside the knob. I ended up drilling the knob's treads deeper, thus allowing me to screw it further down on the shifter.

Unfortunately I did not have my camera for pics, but its pretty easy to figure out. I started with a 5/16" drill bit to deepen the hole. It turns out that after drilling about 1/4", there is a hollow area in the top of the knob. Once that was done, I took a 1/2" drill bit and drilled about 1-5/8" into the knob. This is to allow the knob to fit over the shifter so we can take advantage of the new deeper threads we made. Total time of mod is about 15 minutes. My measurements are rough, be sure to make your own measurements, your car may vary.

This is a pretty simple and free mod to shorten the height of your shifter.

Maybe someone can do this and take pics?

i suppose you'll go back to your original height when you put the ss kit on...
cause those are just adapters right? and have bushings to raise the shifter
unit itself?

so you lowered like 15mm but then the ss kit raises it like 15mm... or something(?).

I was actually able to get it quite low. Hopefully once I get the ss kit installed, the shift knob will still be lower than stock.

Altough its more expensive, I'm planning on getting the mugen one. 1'' shorter and it is a hell of a difference. Dynamicfit got one and I tried it... its one short throw.
