how to remove gauge trim?

Has anyone removed the trim (three round silver rings) from their gauges and painted them?

I know they sell trim that you can glue over the original trim, but if I can remove the existing trim without damaging it, I would prefer to do that.

thanks for any help,

ed

The trim is actually painted onto that plastic piece. If you remove it, you'll have to mask off the other plastic you don't want paint to get onto. I highly suggest getting the chrome one that you can find on Zeta or eBay, then paint it yourself if you want a different colour

Yeah, I saw that after I yanked it out this morning before work. I should have waited till I came home for lunch and read your post.

I'm good at masking but masking the painted rings off looks like a real bitch.

I might try it anyway though, since I already got it off. Worst case scenario if I screw it up is I respray it all flat black and buy the chrome one and paint it.

thanks for your help,

ed

Took me about an hour or so to mask it off. Here's the results.
