Installed Alpine 9884 with Metra kit cannot see the display while driving?

Finally finished my system today, and was driving around enjoying some tunes, but the way the Metra kit holds the Head unit, the LCD is too dim to see. I maxed out the brightness, and still does not make a difference. Is the Schosche kit any better? Please help.
NOTE: The unit was off at the time of the picture. Just wanted everyone to see how far it sits back in the mount, and at the angle it is at.

I think its just the way these kits angle the radio upwards. At times it was harder to see than others with my Alpine too, but never was unreadable. Here is what it will look like in a Scosche kit if it helps you at all.

Thanks for the pic of the Scosche kit. I guess I will swap it. Kinda sucks that Metra did not actually test this on a few different head units before producing them. It is also a pain in the ass to open the faceplate to insert a CD.

I installed my Sony DVD using the Metra kit. What a mistake that was! Total crap!! It just looked cheesy and totally aftermarket. Swapped it with the Scosche the next day. I was very pleased with the look although I admit the Metra kit fit the dash a bit better.

You can get the Scosche kit and wiring harness on ebay for like 50 bux or so, thats where I got mine. I had the Metra at first also, sent that garbage back ASAP as the fit for single DIN radios is horrible. With the 9884 you will probably want to use the trim ring from Alpine with the Schosche, I think it looks a lot better than the one with the kit.

Yeah im gonna order it this week. The wife drives the car a few days a week when we carpool, and the display is so bad, you have to lean over the steering wheel just to sort of see it. I think it is a safety hazzard, and Metra should be ashamed of putting something out on the market like this. Im going to complain to Crutchfield and see what happens.

Looks totally stock except for that ugly gap in the nose gasket at the top of the head unit. That's one of the reasons I went with the Scosche kit but, to each his own...

its just the pic, trust me. the gap is smaller than my fingernail. u just gotta know how to install it... i bought all new retainer clips, and it fit nice and snug.
And on top of that, the metra kit is FREE when you order a head unit from crutchfield.com...

For a Double Din player I'm sure it is fine, but single din, it sits too far back. And it is not free from crutchfield, it is $24.99. That is where I got mine from. But It is not worth .05 cents, if you can't see the display

It's not the dash kit, it's Alpine. the polish their faceplates too much. Kenwood and Pioneer are actually "hazy" to prevent such bad reflectivity. there's not too much can be done since the head unit is mounted pretty high in the dash on Fits as well as most newer vehicles.

Why is it a pain in the ass? I love the look of a recessed cd player like yours. Does it being recessed interfere with the motorized face?

Yes the face hits with the Metra kit, only way to make it not hit is to not use the trim around it, but then it looks bad.
