Am I the only person who cares about RDS?

Every vehicle I've had for the last 15 odd years before this Fit has had the Radio Display System (the one where it shows FM stations call letters and usually the song title and artist of the current song). I really like this, it lets me know what the heck I'm listening to.

The Fit stock radio doesn't have it, and I've been looking at replacements - unless I get something off of eBay that was shipped here from China it looks like this feature either doesn't exist on most radios or isn't advertised. Does nobody else want it, or is it there and I'm not seeing it?

What cars have you been driving!?

Every car I have ever owned has never had RDS, has always been a feature on my aftermarket decks.

The Fit is the first car I have ever owned that reads MP3's

i'm with sugarphreak. I have never seen a stock vehicle come with RDS, most of them just have the radio's channel on the display.

Never owned a car with this. My parents both have cars that do this, but I don't even think it's necessary.

I usually know what I'm listening too and don't ever deviate. The only time this might come in handy is while traveling..... where I don't know the radio stations.

My sister has had this on her cars. I think she always gets Pontiacs. I think that GM cars have this.

First gen Toyota Matrix/Vibe have this feature (radio was made by GM).
RDS is not really supported by the aftermarket like it use to be.
I haven't seen an aftermarket radio with this feature for a while.

i drove a Dodge Grand caravan Rental, as i drove dowb south, i was able to seek through stations base on the type of music, some stations did support the artist and song being played. It sounds like HD radio to me. I guess in the end what matters is you MP3 player, you know what playlist you have programmed.

I've been driving Ford Explorers since about 95 - all of them had it, and I believe my Camaro before that had it too. My wife and I are classic rock fans, but memory fades after a while, so for us it's a benefit to not have to go through "Who did that song, anyway?" In a couple of cases I've bought CD's based on finding out who did a song, so it must help the record industry.

I've run through the displays at Best Buy and Fry's, and didn't see a single unit with RDS at either location, outside of possibly some 2-Din DVD players. There are plenty on eBay if you want brand names very few people on this side of the Pacific have ever heard of - somithing that doesn't bother me, I'm just confused why it's disappeared from local shelves.

My personal guess is nobody cares any more about standard FM/AM radio. "It's either MP3's or satellite radio, or it's junk" seems to be the attitude.

hehe, then again I usually never listen to the radio! Too many commercials, my car is my sanctuary away from crazy annoying commercials!
