Hi all. I bought an AVIC F700BT that I plan to install in my GD Fit once I get it back from the body shop in about 3 weeks (another story). I'm probably going to have some questions along the way, so I'll probably just ask them here.

I have a Scosche kit coming that I bought off EBay. I read the thread for modifying the kit to fit, so I don't think that will be a problem.

To those that have installed a nav unit with an external antenna, do you have any tips for installing the antenna? Did you leave it in the car, or install it on the exterior?

Whenever I install nav units I run the antenna outside for best reception. The user manual of your in-dash unit will outline the best locations for the antenna, but I know alot of people like it inside the vehicle. You can cause reception issues doing this, depending on where you mount it. Regardless of where you can put it, the results will always be best outside the vehicle, where the manufacturer intended it to be. P.S. I have the Scosche kit for my 08 and it required no modification to fit properly, just swapped some of the Scosche clips for the ones on the factory dash piece which helped pull the kit in nice and tight. No issues otherwise, so I would try the kit before modding it.

 

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any suggestions for the best way to get the antenna outside on a 2008 Fit? I'm just looking for the best way to route the wire, and where to put the antenna. My car is still in the body shop, so I can't even look at it. Thanks again.

 

I have the F900 and I put the antenna under my dash behind the glove box. I get perfect reception, never cuts out, and its out of sight with no exposed wires.
