What is a bypass kit?

I picked up a Pioneer AVIC - F700BT and getting ready to get it install. What is the "Bypass Kit" I hear about? From what I know it allows your navi and video to operate while in motion. Is it a plug or something?

dont buy a bypass kit... You can do it yourself a couple different ways. You can do it the hardwire way by switching the mute wire pin on the harness and grounding that and the ebrake wire. Or you can do it like I did and modify the DATA.zip file to allow it.

you can find how to do both at AVIC411.com

mute wire is by far the easiest to do, especially if you are doing the radio install yourself.

Chris,

Thanks for your help. I hope you have the patience for me since I have no knowledge of audio things at all. I read briefly about the DATA.zip. Don't mind me asking quick questions here. So by doing the DATA way I will not need to do wires and stuff?

Again thanks for everyone help. Like I mention I don't know a single thing about audio.

by doing the data.zip change you will not have to ground the mute wire

Changing the data.zip only requires the grounding of the parking break. There is a link where u can download the data.zip file with the modding already done and all you have to do is upload it.

My understanding of how this works is: without the full hardware mod, when you get above XX mph, the radio won't let you watch video or mess with settings. The software change made in the discussed data.zip simply raises that XX value to be something like 250 mph, which you're unlikely to reach in a Fit , so the radio thinks you're still at a "safe" speed, so it behaves like you're parked.

You know... this case highlights just how restrictive things are getting when the products you buy decide for themselves when you can use them.
