DIY map light

Not having a maplight in the Fit has always bugged me so I finally did a search on eBay and picked up this RAV4 maplight for $10.

Any maplight would work but I wanted individual lights for the driver and passenger. I also didn't want a big console so that nixed the sunglasses holder, etc.

Install wasn't too bad. Where I located my light, there is a foam support between the headliner and the roof to keep the headliner from vibrating. I modified the brace to fit with the maplight in place. My light is wired in parallel with the factory overhead light so it retains the door/light function and can be turned on when the key is off. It took me a bit to figure out which wires did what but when I had that deciphered I wired up the overhead light to my maplight using a section of CAT5 computer cable.

The color on the maplight matches the interior plastic in the Fit really well. You wouldn't notice a difference unless you were a Fit owner looking for it.

The maplight housing is made with tabs that protrude to keep it in the headliner. I cut the hold in the headliner to exactly match the housing so it's a snug fit.
