Question Continuous power supply

I'll be installing a Pioneer GEX-920XM radio unit in my '09 Fit, along w/ a new Pioneer head unit.

The only confusing installation instruction is that the manual states that the yellow power wire must be connected to a continuous power supply no matter what position the ignition switch is in.

What does this mean, where do I find one, and how do I do it?

I have read of people ignoring that instruction and connecting the XM unit directly to the yellow power wire from the radio. In doing this, power is supplied to the radio and the GEX-P920XM when the ignition is in auxillary or the on position. But, I have read that this causes your preset stations to not be stored, and there are reports of needing to constantly 'reset' the unit.

Any advice for the car audio n00b is helpful, and please assume I know nothing, and be detailed.

Thanks!

did you order a wiring harness for the car?

the radio comes with a wiring harness... that you can wire up to the wiring harness for the car. that way, you have easier adapter that just plug into the radio and into the car.

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ml#post1051273 (in the 6th picture, the grey part goes to the car, the black to the radio)

without the harness for the car, you'll have to cut into all the wires in the car (in the cramp space where the radio was/will be).

The harnesses have the wires color coded... with yellow being continuous power.

Yup! Thank you Crutchfield!

I do have the wiring harness. So THAT yellow power wire to the radio IS in fact, a continuous power supply?

I was led to believe that it is not...

The radio need contunous power to keep its presets and such, so there has to be one there. Should be yellow on the new harnes, hondas colors are a bit funkey if I remeber right.

Thumbs up

Thanks, I'm good now. The confusion was cleared up thanks to the replies in this post, and more reading & understanding on my part. That yellow wire is in fact what I want to connect to.

Thanks to everyone for your help!
