What are the stock wires like?

I don't have a Fit yet, but 99% certain it will be my new DD.

One of the first things I want to upgrade is the stereo. Just had some questions...

1. How difficult is it to replace the factory radio? I have seen some posts about people having issues with various kits. I am thinking double din, although not sure yet.

2. What is the stock wiring like? Is it worth using or should I count on replacing the stock wiring?

3. How does the car handle an upgraded HU and amp/sub? Will I be quickly looking for a higher output alt?

I installed my stereo and it is running just fine.
My headunit is running at 20RMS per channel, and tossing 2.5 volts down the sub channel to my fusion FPW-1000 sub. the pioneer amp is rated at 400RMs at 2ohms, and I dont get severe dimming.

Which is strange as hell, because the radiator fan kicking on dims lights.

Once I threw a pair of twelves powered by a decently powerful 4 channel (dvc subs), both amps definitely dim the headlights alot.

If you intend an overall system power of around 500rms, you will be fine stock.

if over that, go my planned route of a kinetik battery to replace the stock piece of crap

for radio, F$*#$% scosche!

I paid $33 on ebay for the radio face, radio harness, and antenna harness adapter.

Radio piece did NOT include 4 screws that were required to attach brackets
radio piece is off color
radio piece has gaps and doesnt follow curve of glove box that well

Spend the money on a honda oem navigation face.

Hardest part of install is getting to front screw udnerneath. look at right cupholder, pull the light panel above out (undo lightbulb!), and look directly above with your head as close to cupholder as possible. youll see it after you remove center console

That's some good info. I was thinking of ordering from Crutchfield for the first time in like 12 years to get all the pieces needed for free. Any qualms on that?

I have almost 1000 watts in my Jeep. An Alpine HU but not using its internal amp. Have a 4CH Kicker ZX powering my 4 Infinity speakers. And then another Mono Kicker ZX to a 10" Kicker Comp VR. It started to dim the lights in my Jeep despite it have a 150 amp alt. I thought maybe the alt might be getting wore out, but most replacements were actually downgraded to a 130 amp. So I picked up a Police/Fire Upgrade 160 amp alt. Fixed the problem for the most part.

The other problem is there is a regulator for charging the battery. The warmer it is, it lowers the charge from the alt from 14.4 to 13.4. Normally not a problem, but in my situation it can be. Thinking about removing it. Winter time not a problem, charge stays constant for the most part.

I was thinking for a Fit, going with an Alpine Double Din, replacing the speakers with some Infinity's. Using the amp in the HU. And then putting in an Infinity Basslink I have sitting around that was only used for like a year. I am a big audiophile, but really budget minded. I know I can certainly do better, but honestly never had any problems running a med level budget setup.

Speaking of which, I see the Fit speakers are 6 1/2 inch. Crutchfield is saying 6 3/4 will still fit, any truth to this?

If you use Crutchfield (I just did), the Metra install kit will be the light silver and not the dark gray (a.k.a. Dark Gun Metallic) that is in the 2013 Fit Sport. Not sure, but I think the 2012 Sports are also this color. Not sure about the base model - they may be silver.

Other than the color thing, the Metra kit appears to be well done - shame they haven't offered an alternate color. I went ahead and ordered the OEM Navigation trim and bracket for my install. The OEM parts are under $70 online.
