Is it possible to mod the power window main switch?
Is it possible to mod the power window main switch?
Hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum.
I just changed my 2007 lx for a 2011 sport.
To my surprise the thing I hate the most on the fit still present on this model.
To clarify I have two small children, so many people won't understand the need for this mod.
How does it work:
Main switch on => driver can only play with its own window.
Main switch off => Every passenger can play with their own window + Driver can play with all windows
What I want:
Main switch on => Driver can play with all windows
Main switch off => Every passenger can play with their own window + Driver can play with all windows
Do you think it is possible to make this mod?
I am the only one who think this is a good idea?
Thank you
Federico
P.S. Just for fun, my cost of ownership for my old 2007LX was 143CAD/month

I think you have this wrong of the OP intent... He's talking about wanting to be able to control all the windows from the drivers window control, as currently when you disable the window switch (so that the other doors cannot control their windows) the driver's window is the only one able to be controlled.
right.... I just mean that by doing this MOD, understanding the way the switch works, will lead me to do what I want which is to open all the windows automatically with one push...
since this MOD has no progress, does it mean I will have to start another MOD?
lol

Welcome Fariza!
I like what both of you are trying to do.
Im sure there would be a way to rewire the switch to make both of your ideas work, but it will require designing a logic circuit using multple relays.
The first idea by Fariza would be done by taking the power that the the on/off switch lets through and feeding it back to the master switch circuit that it cuts the power to. The wires would have to be looked at and the switch may have to be carefully inspected, or even disassemled if possible, to see how the power is diverted and if it would overload if redirected. If it would overload, then it can have the power diverted that would normally go to the LF window to all 4 through one or more relays.
The mod tha Camivill wants to do will most definately need relays so that you dont overload the drivers window switch by sending power to all for windows at once through the LF window switch contacts. That would eventually melt something. Im sure the contacts and power wires weren't made for quadruple the load you are talking about running through that LF switch.
Neither of these will be an easy circuit for a novice to design or wire and could be an experiment that might melt a master switch along the way if the current isn't tested and the switch is overloaded. The difficulty will lie in the power being switched internally in the master switch with no place to tap into it. That will only leave the option of using the wires that go to each window which will mean interupting those circuits and putting relays inline that will receive power from the master switch when its used.
With that being said, a dash mounted switch that in one position will take the power output from the LF switch and send it to all 4 windows at by activating a sufficiently rated relay will do the trick. In the other position the switch will block the relay and the windows will operate as they normally would.
A variation of that will work for what Fariza wants to do but is much more complicated and will need the wires for the RF, LR and RR wires coming out the drivers door tobe physically cut and then sent through relays. Are you up to that kind of mod Fariza? Depending on what can be tapped into at the master switch you may also need a dash mounted switch to control this.
There will be headaches!
I have heard that there are some factory manuals floating around out there. Does anyone have one that I can look at for the years of the vehicles you wish to mod? Would also like to see one for my 2010 Sport.
Ill give you a better direction if someone can show me the manuals with the diagrams.
