power outlet always hot

Hey there, Now that I installed a power outlet in my center console, has anyone found a good way to keep the 12 VDC outlets hot at all times? I am always having to charge my phone in the car, but hate that I lose the power when I shut the car off and the phone is still charging. It would just be handier for me in general. Ideas? Threads I missed? help?

Run a line straight from the battery?

"Add-a-fuse" off any live line in the fuse box when the key is out? Headlight? Dome light? map lights?

Hope you have a method of checking the car's battery level... lest ye strand thyself.
