My Fit's biggest Gripe

First off, I got a fit. =P YeY! Silver Sport AT. YeY! Love it to death =P

My one issue with it. What is with the vinyl, what I like to call "crater faced teenager, interior. Grey with tons of little black dotties everywhere. Don;t get me wrong it is very appeling to the eye. But, it leads to a rather stand out aftermarket look.

I am doing boxes in the rear corner. Over the rear wheel wells in the "akward stoarage areas". Two 10" subs. Nothing overwhelming. Clean and classy like I am going to keep my car.

I am looking for suggestions as to how to paint, or or... whatever my boxes once they are done. I would really like it to blend. Look natural, foactory, and most of all classy =P Project starts in two weeks over columbus day weekend I think. This is the best that I can come up with. (which is not much) I have no idea which brand it is but someone makes a spray that is textured like a course stone. I am thinking of sparying the final product down with this mess and then covering it with a blackish-grey semi gloss at a body shop my friend owns. Friend only does paint and he is a little dense (Blame the paint fumes) so he is of little help =P

If anyone can come up with anything I'd LOVE to hear it. I'd just at three weeks from done on my project as I have to much work to do to get it done quickly or efficiently =(

Lemme hear your of NO!!!!! on my idea at least =P

i really like ur idea. The best thought right now u could do would be to cover it up in black carpet material. They sell a very thin one so it its flexible. I don't recommend vinyl b/c it won't match ur trunk and the carpet will match the floor. Another idea would be to paint it SSM cuz that would be dope too. The texture spray you are talking about, the company i think is by SEM but im not sure about that ( i have used it in the past but waaaaaay past) but i'll get back to u on that. If you want upholstry, the best place 2 get it CHEAP would be the same place i buy all my stuff:

http://yourautotrim-store.stores.yahoo.net/index.html

On the side click on "AUTOMOTIVE CARPET, SPEAKER CARPET & PADDING"
then click on 40" wide (or 80" don't matter) and den either graphite gray or black will do. I think graphite gray is closer cuz that is the color that honda uses. This material is VERY FLEXIBLE so u can get it to mold beautifully around a custom speaker box. Learn from me i have used this stuff soo many times. If i have pix of my enclosures that i have built i'd show ya its very clean and OEM looking.

Hope i helped bro. If u got any questions just pm me o i.m me.

Do you happen to have any of your pics handy? I'd really like to see them. I like the idea of carpet more than anything as there is only one good anchor point between my box and walls short of drill holls. The hooks for the cargo net are going to be part of the design as for mounting. To bottom of the box is going to be MDF and mounted to the floor at those locations.

This is a shitty as hell copy and paste of what that company offers. I'm drunk now and don't care to fight with it =( (is was SO shitty that I had to delete it...)

Eitherway a picture of that fabric weather installed or not in a fit could prove extremly helpful when making my final decision.

I follow your idea. It is different . I believe you are going to do an excellent job and you dont want to go mainstream. going through a paint shop and using skill to do the job you will do fine. send me the pictures...
My reply about the interior you made is that it is the way it is... kinda like carbon fiber It is unique. good luck

If you are not happy with the stock vinyl finish to the interior you can always go to an upholstery specialty shop and look at the samples of materials that can be used to cover over the interior panels and your custom upgrades.

Anything that is plastic can be removed and painted or airbrushed whatever finish you want.

Leather is possible, leather like material or cloth is possible, and I have even seen material like Ostrich skin used

You can paint smooth surfaces any finish and if there is an airbrush specialist nearby you can commission something with a theme in mind.

In my area there is an airbrush artist that paints cars, motorcycles, helmets, buses, anything.

Dream big. You can even do it in stages to fit a budget. If you buy the material you can do some yourself. The airbrush artist can charge by the hour or do it for a flat fee- the more you pay the more intricate the details.
