Exclamation Some Fit Odometers may overstate mileage

I found this article interesting. I don't know how to tell if a particular Fit is effected, but it sounds like owners will be mailed a notice.

My LX (base) Fit's odometer is about 2% high. I'd guess it's calibrated for the Sport's tires, which are 2% larger.

here is the good beefy part of the article

it has voluntarily agreed to expand by 5 percent its mileage-based agreements with persons who bought or leased Honda or Acura vehicles in the United States, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands between April 13, 2002, and Nov. 7. The expanded agreements include warranties, lease mileage-based limitations and extended vehicle service contracts for certain 2002 through 2006 Honda and Acura vehicles and some of the 2007 Honda Fit models, according to the statement.
i wounder if i get money somehow lol

So you can actually make more money off of it by driving places for work?

I guess it also means my gas mileage is worse.

I figure Honda owes me about $18,000 for the emotional pain and suffering this has caused me.

That sucks. This means mileage is less than we calculated.

speedometer

Recently checked out the accuracy of my speedometer and found it remarkably accurate. I guess my so-so gas milage is probably right for a base fit w sport tyres. The height of the tyres-wheels is the same for the base stock Fit and the Sport?

No. Sport tires are 195/55R15 with nominal radius 297.7mm. Base tires are 175/65R14 with radius 291.6mm, which is 2.1% smaller. When the time comes to replace them, 185/65R14 (+0.1%) would be a much better match. For winter tires, 175/70R14 (+0.9%) would be good.

kps: Winter tyres!? Down here in the Southeast we get 1 in of snow and everything is called off and all of the bread, milk, water and can goods jus' flys off of the shelves. My next tyres are going to be 205/50R16 probably. Any larger than that plus lowering would really cause a problem!
And I still have my base shoes and wheels w 500 miles on them and nobody even wants the tyres or the wheels: too skinny and 14 in.
Oh yeah I lived for may years in Chicago area and south of Boston area while in the Navy... and those places REALLY had winters!

Use Your Gps!

I have a Gamin 550c GPS with a trip recording feature. I zeroed-out both the Fit's and the Garmins Trip-meters at the same time.

Been monitoring both since, and both have since been mirroring each other exactly. Let’s see after a few more days though…

If you have a GPS with this feature you should try doing this test...

This may be VIN specific, meaning that they may have made an adjustment along the way.

Dunno, I kinda like mine, in a contrarian sort of way: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/show...442#post101124.
I'll keep them for winter tires once the originals wear out.

I'll bet they 'fixed' it in the fine print. Odometer reading may vary from actual distance travelled due to differences in wheel size, tire inflation, hydroplaning, moon phase, etc. etc.

Heh, it would be nice if that article was a bit more specific as to exactly which models besides the Odessey showed the problem; I guess the results won't be released in their entirety until next year, from what the article said. My odometer doesn't seem as if it's overstating my mileage; my commute to work is 20 miles, and my odometer mileage is consistent with driving about that much, including my road trips and such. Then, I don't pay too much attention to it. It doesn't seem to go up too much faster than the Escort's odometer did, at least.

To put it into inches for the U.S people that means

Sport tires are: 195/55 15 = 23.44 inches in diameter
Base tires are: 175/65 14 = 22.95 inches in diameter

So the sport tires are: 0.45 inches larger in diameter than the base tires.

Since I haven't seen anything that tells us which odometers are off, sport, base or both. I would have to agree with Karyn when she said:
