is it possible to do an engine swap 1.8 vtec

i was wondering, since everyone is talkin about swapping in k20 and k22 or watever. Is it possible to swap in 1.8 vtec from the new Honda Civics in our little monsters? is the 1.8 vtec engine smaller than the k20s?

Since you will be going through the trouble of doing a swap then why not go straight with the k20 instead? Plus, a number of fits are already taking this route so aftermarket support should be better after some time. Haven't heard about anyone attempting to do an r18 swap though. You're reffering to this engine right?

blackgd3, i was thinkin of dat swap (K20a), but i am also thinkin about the balance of the car such as weight, and wont it be more heavier frontside?
so far from wat ive read on the forums i dont know if the a/c will be useable, A/C is essential here in the middle east!!
our Fits/Jazz have small engine bays and i think the 1.8l ivtec is smaller in size and in weight, so i was hopin dat it would fit easily without cutting or sacrifice other parts in the car such as A/C.
i dont know if the r18 is the same as the 1.8L i-vtec

R18 swap

I was also curious about the R18 swap. I figured since the civic, which is heavier than the Fit, gets 40mpg on the highway and has more torque and power, then the fit should be able to get +40mpg and be faster. But obviously you can't get the good gas mileage if you have your foot in it all of the time.
...Now if I could only find an inexpensive front clip of a civic....

a/c will still be usable. I've asked the owner of the pink k20 fit here in the philippines. Although he said it was not as strong because he had to use a smaller one to cope with the lack of space. There should be more solutions though. About the balance issue, imagine any old model civic race car. Those cars are way lighter than the fit will ever be but still do great at the circuits with heavier engines. Also, there was a race held in the us, redline timeattack I think, the k20 fit ranked 2nd place in the FWD class and was just a little slower than the crx that won that class. You can search the boards coz Im to lazy to post up the link hehe.

so the Pink K20 Fit owner had to use a smaller a/c!?
see now, im not down with buying another a/c, i just wanna use the stock one, so dats why im considering of the 1.8 ivtec, swap it in and not have to bother with the A/c. I know im gonna have to change my suspensions and brakes and dats fine. But Middle East is a hell alot hotter than Philipines. so A/c is a MUST, not even a small ass tiny a/c wont do.

so if anyone knows if the 1.8 is smaller in size and weight than the k20? later i can always turbo charge the 1.8.

R18 = B18c?

Are you talking about the B18C engine that comes from the old integra GSRs and Type Rs?

I have heard of someone doing a b16a conversion (1.6 vtec from old civic R) but not a B18. The old B-series engines spin in a different direction than the newer L and K series do so you would have problems with mapping that out.

Nope - never been to Bahrain, but i live close by. Im from Dubai, UAE.

Just saw ur 'jedi night' - nice ride man...

My suggestion to u - get a K20a3. People in US say it sucks. Sure maybe it does. But people on this board dont know that it costs 25K AED to get a K20a2 engine vs 4K for an a3. (those prices are here in Dubai)

The R18 is still 155hp. The K20a3 is 160hp and u can find them easily. They come right out of the Honda Stream.
Im thinking of doing the swap myself, but the A/c and the extra parts needed from the RSX, and the fact that i want to keep it auto - are really shutting me down....

anyways, try taking a ride in the new 07 jazz - over here it has a 121hp and a really smooth ride.... im sure it will be the same there.

wow 2500 Bah. dinars!! for a k20a2? is it brand spankin new? and u sayin its only 160 hp?
i was hopin a 2.0L will be more around 180 - 190hp maybe,
anyways i was talkin about 1.8L ivtec engines dat come in the new Honda Civics 2007. not the b18s. Any idea on how much a brand new 1.8L ivtec engine would cost in Dubai?
Like i said im dont wanna have to change my A/C and remove other stuff just to make space. I was hopin 1.8L would be smaller and easier with havin to do any major modifications

k20a2 is from teh Civic Si hatch (02-05?) i think and yeah only 160 hp

K20z and K20a something (new civic si and rsx-s accordingly) make around 200 hp each.

oh that's the civic engine! sorry i thought you were talking about another one.

i don't see why you couldn't push it into the Fit. the displacement isn't that big a bump up and it's still SOHC.

Not the K20a2, the k20a3....
the k20a2 has 200hp,
the a3 is 160hp

The civic engine (R18) is still very new, and hence a higher price. Probably around 10,000AED, if not more. They are a little harder to find in Dubai.

The other thing to consider (which has been said above) - if u want to modify the engine after the swap, there is no aftermarket support.

Might as well get ur car turboed or sc, will probably cost you the same as doing the swap.

You will never find a new engine.... atleast not here in Dubai. No one will sell it...

For the K20a3 you will also need to replace the transmission. Thats another problem if u want to keep ur car auto. The auto trans, it seems, is too large and will not fit properly in the Jazz.

R18 - ur going to go through alot of hassle anyways. No one makes mounts for this engine. That means you will need to fabricate it urself. Secondly, i dont think the R18 is *that* much smaller than a K20.

Do the research first man - wait for someone else to do it and see what they have to say.... it can save u alot of time and money.
