Hey there!

Finally made my first AutoX today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VHu...e_gdata_player

Is my fastest run of the day (sorry about the video quality.)

and here is the photo album:

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

I ran in Novice STC, because I'm running non stock tires (225/15 RS3's) camber bolts (-3.2 LF -2.9 RF) Swift springs with adjustable dampers, Intake/Exhaust and a Progress RSB.

I am also in a GD3 as opposed to a GE, but I LOVE my setup. I drive around 15+K a year with the Fit as my daily and I run a consistent -1.5 and have only ever experienced more even tire wear.

Today after my runs though I was told that next time I should compete in STF for FWD cars? The only STF car I saw run today was a Scion XA, and if i qualify for that class I WILL be competitive lol

Only 4 more events in the SF region this year, and I hope to make all of them!

Tyler

the "F" doesn't actually stand for front wheel drive. The newer heavier cars and low hspr cars are in stf. the faster cars are in stc. It was to break the juggernaught of the '89-'91 civic Si. and yes STF is where we belong to give the mazda 2's and 1stgen MINI's "FITS."

Excellent! Thank you for the clarification. It was in fact two 89-91 civic Si's that dominated in STC lol Go with the Sprint springs, you will love it!

unfit2compete. How much air pressure are you running up front?

Hmm... I have been running 30-32 in the front and 32 the in the rear... But the only advice I had gotten on what to run was from my tire guys, and he said he would run as low a pressure as 26! What do you guys base your tire pressures on?

In my experience the Fit with stock suspension, which ours is really has a problem with tearing up the outside edge of the tires. And the feel with low pressure is not rewarding. Chalking the sidewall tells the story. We ran Conti Extreme DW's last month. This month were switching to Star Specs, hoping for some sidewall stiffness.
Rear sway bars ordered, installed camber bolts in the bottom position also. Need to have the toe checked. Did this by eye.

Looks like I take some chalk to my next event! I am running in STF with quite a few changes in suspension, on Hankook Rs3's. I did notice quite a bit of sideways tread wear, but I attributed that to my over enthusiasm with the right foot while cornering... I have to stop creating understeer with over exuberance lol

I've done a lot of street testing, and I get the best traction at, or around the factory recommended pressures. There is no indication that my tires are rolling over that bad, but I haven't chalked them and done a u-turn. I know autocross is a lot different than street driving, but I don't see how people navigate the car with those pressure. I have no traction, bad understeer, and less control. Running the rears at an even lower pressure nets a lot more grip and stability.

hayden, auto x cannot be duplicated driving on the street. Got the toe set today, I was equal both sides but had 3/8" toe in. Set to zero. With camber bolts top & bottom it's set @ -2.3. The Progress sway bar was at the house when I got home.

What pressures did you end up being happy with on the DWs? That's what I'm running. Definitely interested to hear how you like the RSB. I've been getting used to mine over the past few weeks, and am able to really toss the car around, and unweight the rear for some massive low speed rotation. I think you'll be happy with it on the auto-x course.

Running around in the street 33lbs. works well. We have roads near the house out in the boonies that are very smooth, but a mistake may cost you your life. Fast street driving for us also includes not using the brakes. Keeps straight line speed down.
I'll get the sway bar installed before the next event.

I'll be getting the rear's psi up to get more rotation if I need it. The RSB really made a big difference. I got a second pair of camber bolts to put in the top holes in my GE before next autox.

Having the rear PSI higher than the front did seem to make a marked difference in rotation at lower speeds for me in my GD. Not as much as the Progress RSB though

I think I will have to try a chalk test with my AutoX wheel's and tires before my next event on the 19th. If it seems that tire pressures need to go up, I will have to invest in a far more portable compressor than my 220v unit at home...

This is the wear I noticed after my last event running 30psi front and 32psi rear. I thought it was from excessive acceleration while cornering. What do you think?
