Bump stops on rear shocks.

Today I pulled the rear shocks and cut down the bump stops, it made a huge difference in the way the rear rides, it`s alot smoother and not as bouncy.

cutting bump stop is kinda a touchy thing.

I don't know much about the fit's bump stop, but on some other cars, the bump stop actually acts kinda of as a progressive spring.

when just rolling on the high way, you won't be touch the bump stop, but under hard cornering, you will hit the bump stop, and the spring rate will increase. lets say there r 5 levels or cornering hardness. the harder you corner, the higher the spring rate will be. Say the highest is 800+the spring rate, so you go from 100, 200, 400, 600, 800. But if you cut off half of the bump stop, the minute u go into a hard corner, your spring will stiff up 400lb in a snap.

also, if cut too much bump stop, you are running at a higher risk of blow the seal, since you will have more travel then factory intended.

so, the best way to deal with this is usually buy an aftermarket bump stop kit

those are based on my past experience, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have the DF210 springs, 1.8 drop in front. 1.3 drop in rear, I cut 1.8 inch off the front bump stops but the rear shock had a bit more travel so I cut 1.7 off the rear. Now that I`ve done this the ride is much smoother, when I go over dips in the road the rear is not bottoming out and bouncing off the bump stop like before. The rear bump stop is a little over 4 inches long so taking 1.7 inch off of it still doesn`t let it compress all the way down, so this should keep it from blowing the seal.

My friend wanted to go back to stock springs, so off he went to Honda to buy some new bump stops. They sell the front ones in pairs, but not the rear ones. They come with the shock as a unit. STRANGE!!! Where can you buy aftermarket ones online?

Can anyone confirm whether or not to cut the bump stops with Tein S-tech for GD3? It is not noted on Tein's instructions.

Majority anyone isntalling springs you need to cut the bump stops. As for how much you can follow bmx racr's recommendation since it is very minor.
