Question Rotors (Blanks) - OEM or aftermarket?

I've been getting quite a wobble/shimmy from high-speed braking (60-50 down to dead stop) and I've decided that it's time to give the rotors some attention.

My pads are still original, and look every bit as thick as they did the day the car rolled off the lot back in '06.

I assume that the rotors could use turning, but since dealers and shops charge at least $45 (all the way up to $160 for resurfacing!), I figure I'll just buy some new rotors.

I'm not looking for any crazy slotted/drilled rotors, just plain blank rotors.

Any recommendations? Aftermarket blank rotors from Pepboys/Advanced Auto/Autozone are considerably cheaper than OEM rotors from dealers. Any advantages between the two?

hmm u can get regular blank rotors and just upgrade your pads then its all g!

i had brembo replacement rotors and hawk pads on my civic it was the best street setup just needed to upgrade my lines..

just remember slotted rotors eats the break pads a bit faster but u break faster.

I'm considering this also, when the time comes for me to resurface my rotors. I'm probably going to replace them with Brembo Blanks

EBC makes okay brake products. Here's some crazy looking rotors EBC ROTORS.

Were you on Civicforum.com formerly 7thgencivic.com formerly 2k1Civic.com? Did you have an EM2?

Thanks so much for the link! I gave up searching for Brembo blanks - thought they weren't made for the Fit.

Still a little pricey compared to other blanks, wonder if they are worth the extra bucks...decisions, decisons...

I'd get some slotted rotors.

I've been running a pair of $20 Kragen rotors for a little while. They've been fine so far. Tonight I had them hot enough to get some brake-pad stink, still no sign of trouble.

If you guys are having ongoing brake pulsing trouble, you might need to modify your driving habits a bit and possibly switch to a pad that can handle higher temps. Iron carbide deposits (cementite) will damage a set of Brembos just as fast as a set of stockers.

A lot of people have trouble with brake shudder on the 1st gen Fit. Mine appeared around 18K mi and the dealer resurfaced the rotors for me which corrected it. That said, I drive aggressively enough where I didn't want to keep having this probem. The Fit's brakes brakes are pretty good stock, but I've ordered Brembo slotted rotors and Porterfield R4-S pads.

The best advice you can get is not to buy the cheapies from the car parts places. Most are from China and are as low grade as you can imagine. Stick with the recognized brands>: Brembo, StopTech, Hawk, or acknowledged sellers like TireRack.
While you're at it upgrade your pads too.

All Hondas are prone to brake shudder. This is a hot topic across all the Forums I belong to.

A big factor is uneven torque on the lug nuts.

I ALWAYS use a torque wrench. I also retorque immediately after a shop has touched my wheels.... If the wheels heat up with overtightened lugs they can warp!

Result? 150K miles on the OE rotors of my Acura!

PS Coating the contact surface of the wheels & hubs with anti-sieze paste aids in the transfer of heat during braking....the wheels act as a heat-sink for the brakes.
