Question on Dust cover
Question on Dust cover
Hello Sirs,
I owned a Tein Basic Damper for my GE about for 6 months and there hasn't been any problem with the ride so far.
The only thing that bugs me is the dust cover part of the teins, which keeps getting wrinkled and twisted inside. It wrinkles so bad up to a point where it is stuck at the upper-most part of the strut and being impossible to pull it back down without tearing it apart.
I disassembled the strut with the problem from the car to recover the dust cover back into its proper place and found out that it has been torn into half as a result from the twist. So I decided to throw it away as it does no longer covering the strut shaft and Im afraid keeping it like that might result in more twist and wrinkle in the future.
I do not know exactly what have caused it to twist and wrinkle as the other 3 of the dust covers seem to be fine and sit good in its place.
My question is... Should i replace it? Is it okay to run the coilover without the dust cover? Im worrying about causing an irreversible damage to the strut shaft due to dirt and dust scratching the surface of the shaft.
Is there anybody here having the same problem with the dust cover?
FYI : the dust cover is the part that looks like a stocking made from rubber which covers the shock shafts and they usually come with the coilover package.
Please share some experience you have with them
Thank you very much in advance

This is the picture taken from the search engine. It is not for TEIN brand, but they shaped and serve the same purpose. The TEIN one has black color
This is the part that was torn apart in my case. Is it okay to run the strut without it? Cause It costs about $30/pc.
Thank you again for the kind reply sir

Oh okay so this is the part thats is directly on the strut (inside the coils/springs). Is it safe to have without...yeah, but it could cause some premature wear from debris, grit, and grime that can accumulate on/in the strut
