"Hellaflushtards"

Now you've done it. There will be an E-Bay speed shop with that name by next week.......... <LOL> On the other hand, I'd better check, there may be one already............

My frustration is the difficulty in getting the spring rates for aftermarket springs. Most manufacturers won't make them public, even to dealers. Even when they do, the field tested results often don't match the claimed specs. And, that's before the springs settle.

Take a look at the front to rear spring ratios of some of the aftermarket springs versus that of the stock springs. How much research are those companies actually doing?

Aftermarket springs, from countries where the average hourly wage is less than the cost of a piece of chewing gum, are out there. Can that be worse than a single coil being cut out of a Japanese spring?

If some thought (or restraint) is used by the guy cutting the springs (Oops! There is the problem!), the results might not be too bad. If it doesn't work, they can always buy a set of springs.

On the flip-side, I've seen wheels sticking out beyond fenderwells. Tires so large they throw the speedometer off 25% and weigh 20 lbs more than stock. Exhausts, on stock motors, so large you could lose a melon up them. In that sense, there ain't no fixing stupid.

You raise some good points, and made me laugh out loud on that first bit. I find myself agreeing with basically everything you said in that post

I am just stubborn and OCD about doing things "right" because at least around here I have to share the road with some wheeled abortions, many of which are just downright dangerous.

So I err on the side of caution when discussing things like suspension and brakes because I see some concerning things from members of this board sometimes and I don't want to give anyone any ideas that may lead to injury if executed poorly or improperly

I can be an ass sometimes.. but I don't want any one to get hurt or stranded. Or worse unintentionally cause harm to someone I care about.

No arguments on my part. In the early 70's I installed Koni's and aftermarket springs (Brock Racing Enterprises for the old guys) on my 240Z. In the 40 years since then I have seen tons of sheer Krap out there and an astounding lack of thought by both suppliers and users. Hey, the 21st century brought us Electric Superchargers ! ! ! It hasn't gotten better.

Being a child of the 70's, I tend not to trust aftermarket suppliers until they prove their worth. I'd rather cut OEM springs, if I know their original rates, and not get carried away in the process, than go out and buy springs from folks who refuse to publish their rates. At least any published rates (if half-assed accurate) would give some sort of comparison.

I'm frustrated by the consumers who just go buy springs based upon drop..... Kind of like buying a car based upon the size of the gas tank........ I'm looking for balance and handling rather than looks and a sticker on the fender.

Knowledge is power afterall.......
