tire size question

my jazz is currently on 15x6.5 +40 offset with 195/55/15 tires. my rear rubs when 3 people are on board during dips at speed.

somebody suggested that i change the tires to 185/55/15. 10mm less SHOULD remove the wheel rub problem. will it?

researched in the net. most 185/55/15 tires can fit a 15x6.5 inch wide wheel

my other option is upgrading to 16x7 wheels with +45 offset.

cost wise, changing wheel specs is cheaper since i can sell my fairly new 195/55/15 tires but run the risk of still having wheel rub at the back. the 16x7 wheels still do not have tires

researched and optimum offset is +45. question is by switching to 185mm width tires from 195mm ones offset the 5mm i need to clear the part that rubs at the back?

The problem is you have a wider than stock rim with 15mm less offset than stock.

Stock is 15x6 with +55 offset
You have 15x6.5 with 40 offset.
So you are about +6 mm wider and +15mm wider facing the outside of the fender from stock or about 3/4" wider so any tire that is stock sized will risk rubbing under load in the rear seat since stock suspension is soft.

195/55-15 fits rims 5.5-7" wide, 23.5" tire diameter, section width 7.9", 85 load rating
185/55-15 fits rims 5-6.5" wide, 23.1" tire diameter, section width 7.6", 82 load rating, limited selection of tires. (Toyo T1R about $70 each).
So this tire is more narrow and less tall so that would help clearance. More rear negative camber would also help- you'd need shims for that.

You can also roll the rear fenders for a little more clearance.

Just take a dremmel and grid off about 5-7mm of where the rear bumper mounts to the rear fender. I have 17x7 +40 on my wife's Fit and that solved the rubbing.

i run 195/50/15... lots of benefits for me... like less sidewall flex during
cornering, smaller diameter for better acceleration gearing vs stock, and
looks better than those 195/55 balloon look.
