New Tires for Jaime
New Tires for Jaime
the falkens (912's) have run their course.
and it was a much shorter course than i expected, as they only lasted about 1k more than the stockers, which lasted around 28k.
they recieved rotation every 5k miles as well.
i dont have wheels yes (well, aftermarket ones at least lol) so i stuck with the stock sport tire size and checked out my options.
came SO close to getting the yoko s drives, for the grip, and smoothness/quite nature of the tire....ultimately, the 300 treadwear rating (not bad at all for a summer tire) and knowing winter will be on its way in a few months deterred me.
so i ended up with some goodyear eagle gt's. i got them tuesday of last week, but wanted to log on a few miles before posting my impressions.
i know have almost 300 miles on em.
INITIAL impression:
i dunno if my ziex's were just super warn down or what, but the eagle gt's were about as smooth as the falkens were when i first put them on, and boy did they lightenup my steering, almost to the point were i did not like it.
they are not as quiet as the falkens were initally, but the falkens got VERY loud after about 10k, so if these stay at the level they are now, or only slightly increase, that will be fantastic. Still, compared to my worn falkens. they were worlds quiter. they look super beefy on the wheels, and the straightline stability is fantastic. cant wait to do my cars suspension with these bad boys on there.
SHORT TERM impression:
my steering feel is back, just guess they needed to be broken in. these tires grip MUCH harder than the ziex's did and on hard corners i have noticed that i near the limit of my suspensions travel and chassis capability before i near the grip limits of the eagle's. its awesome, but it has given my car that hard gripping, significant amount of body roll while cornering feel that is indicative of some high performance vw and audi products, sort of a turn the wheel and just hand on type of thing.
they are still quiet, even on the freeway going 70+mph. the treadwear rating is at 400, so hopefully i'll be able to squeeze out at least 35k. if i can, the superior levels of grip provided by these tires over the falkens will have made them worthwhile.
btw, as most who read my posts know, i'm all about peformance first and looks as a bonus, but the tread pattern on these tires looks AWESOME. probably the most aggresive looking high peformance all season tire i have ever seen, and almost if not more aggresive than some dedicated summer tires (including the s drives.)
