2009 Fit Sport Tires 185stock -> 195?
So I'm looking to replace my original tires on my Sport. I got 30,000+ miles on the 1st set and they are visibly bald at a distance. (Guys at work are telling me it's time.)
I'm in Albany, NY where I had to stay home from work last year when it snowed because the Dunlop SP Sport 7000's that came on it were horrible and I couldn't get out of my development in an inch or two of snow.
So since I can only get 2-3 tires in my area that are the stock size 185/55R16 I have been considering going up to 195's. My tire dealer is recommending Nokian WRG2's so I can get some winter performance out of an all season tire.
Has anyone tried 195's on what was stock 185? We discussed 205's that I know some people have done but the tire dealer didn't want to go that far.
HELP! It's already snowing here.

Your dealer is recommending Nokian tires? I've been driving for 36 years and have owned a LOT of cars over the years and have never heard of that brand.
Do yourself a favor and buy a set of Continental DWS tires and be done with it. They have a treadwear of 540 (so they should last 50k miles) and are one of the top ranked all season tires that Tirerack sells.
We have them on my wife's BMW and we love them.

I have Nokians on my Fit. (On when I bought it)
I will tell you I am not impressed with the wet traction and they make a TON of road noise. I feel like I am driving a car with dogbox transmission coming down from speed off the interstate.

In my area in my size I can get what I have: 185/55R16
Dunlop spt sport 7000a/s
Bridgestone Potenza G019 all season
Bridgestone Blizzak WS 60 snow (so I would need another set of tires in the summer)
Or
Handkook Ventus V2 Concept
For the way I drive (I tend to hit things like pot holes) it's best for me to have a tire that is usually in stock.
The Nokian's are consumer reports rated but they do not have a wear rating since they are an all season that are also rated for winter (which I think is why my tire shop recommended them.) They are also sport utility truck tires which concerns me too.

Not a good thing at all for a Fit. I cannot imagine putting a sport utility truck tire on any car I own, and you should wonder why any reputable tire shop would recommend it.
Even though they may not be readily available at a moment's notice, buy a set of 205/50-16 DWS tires and all will be well. They are basically the same height and slightly wider than the stock 185/55-16 tires you now have.
Go to tirerack.com and look up the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tire and read the reviews. They are an outstanding all season tire.

Firestone says he can find me in 185/55R16 Bridgestone Potenza G019 grids All season so I might try those since they are wear rated to 50k. $450 installed vs $600+ for just about everything but what I have now.
I also learned that the Blizzak's only last 2 winters.

So I got the Blizzak's. They are weird so far. My original tires were pretty bald. These feel like the wheels are loose. I know they are on tight because I saw them use a torque wrench. I don't know why it feels that way at least it only happens at highway speeds. BF says he thinks one of the weights has fallen off and a tire is no longer balanced.

I had the same issue deciding on tires and got a lot of help from everyone on the forum. The Continental DWS 205/50-16 is a great tire and the size is really close to the original stock tire. Three quarters of an inch wider, two pounds heavier, but nearly the same on the other dimensions.

These tires are not something you will want to drive year around, unless you happen to live at the South Pole.

Actually Mike I live close to the Norh Pole! In case you missed the weather coverage we had a nasty snowstorm last weekend.
Also if you read my other posts above instead of campaigning for your Contenentals that don't come in my tire size or are readily available in my area you would know that I was interested in SNOW tires and that they will only last me 2 seasons. In the spring I can put on whatever tire is available a the time.
The Potenza tires have been discontinued and Every Engineer (at work and college friends) and shops I talked to didn't want to change the tire size so drastically. At this point I want to leave the tire size changing to you boys and wait for you to report back.
Would you really want to change the tire size on your daughters car when you know she can afford a good set of snows in the factory size? My father wouldn't... Especially in a car that's so small it wouldn't take much in an accident to total it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Handkook Ventus V2 Concept in the 185/55R16 size? I'm on a budget and they are fairly cheap. It is fairly hard to find reviews on them though.

Proper tire size for factory rim for 2009 Fit Sport is 205/50 R16. Replaced factory tires 60K ago (92K on my Fit now) with all season Yokohama AVID ENVigor 205/50 R16. No problem with tires (just got 2nd set, after 60K miles on the first set) No problem with rubbing, no problem with mpg. I can get 35-38mpg (if i keep 60-65mph on the highway). Tires mounted by dealership. Got it from Tire Rack. At first they did not want to do it, but now all thay have is 205/50R16 for 09 Fit ( after 6mo of oil changes and inspecting my car nd tires ). I Still have the old set in case I have a flat. Still good. Speedometer error with this size is just 1mph. At 150K mil. I will buy 3rd set of ENVigor (if the car still run- i'am in sales driving 40-60K mil. per year - need good tires ) Why Honda went with factory tire size - better mpg (2-4mpg ), and slight edge in very deep snow over any other tire on the market (even snow tires) I know - we tested at the dealership.
