Winter tire size.

Hello,

I'm new to FitFreak.net. I own a 2007 Honda Fit which came with the standard 175/65R14 tires.

I recently managed to acquire a set of snow tires at a very reasonable price which were from a Honda Civic and I was wondering if they'd fit or not. These tires are 175/70R14. The bolt pattern matches so my only concern would be the 70% ratio as opposed to the 65% ratio.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Kirk

Understanding ratio.

Thanks Pearl,

Could you tell me what the difference is between these numbers (65% vs. 70% ratio) and how significant it is? I don't fully understand...I just don't want the tires to rub. Also, will it affect what I read on the odometer/speedometer?

Thanks again!
Kirk

You are talking about .8" difference in tire diameter. 23.1" vs. 23.9"

You are talking 868 revolutions per mile vs. 899 revolutions per mile.

You are talking about a 3% difference in speedometer reading. You speedo will be 3% slower.

Go for it if the price it right.

The diameter of 175/65x14 tires is 22.95" and the diameter of your 175/70x14 tires is 23.64"; they will be perfect As for the wheels make sure they will clear the brake caieprs. If they miss just barely you can add 1/4" thick spacers to your hubs. Do it all 4 wheels otherwise you'll make your tires clear wider swath of snow. . If you're running on packed snow it doesn't matter much; its the soft stuff that matters.
Then its all tire performance.
Ideally, snow tres should be little bigger diameter and same width or even a trifle less to increase pressure of the tire on the snow = or ice - surface and not pushing aside any additional width of soft snow. Above all though is the quality of the snow tires and for that consult tirerack or consumer reports.
cheers and good luck. Later designs have lots of gripping sipes that help.
