New Winter Rubber

Hey guys,

I'm buying new winter tires soon, and had a few questions. I promise that they're relevant and that I've searched the forums for answers.

1. If you've bought winter tires for the Fit before, how much did they cost?
I've got a brick and mortar place in town quoting me $479, which I don't see as a total ripoff, but kinda pricey. There for General Altimax Arctic, out the door pricing.

2. I've looked at tire rack, etc, but am a little nervous ordering from an online shop and then going to another shop to install em. In my experiences most shops don't like to do this, and I'm always overly cautious with my vehicle, as I have heard too many horror stories. Anyone have any experience with this? I think it would save me about $100 but I'd have to wait a week and a half, and I'm trying to get new tires sooner than that.

Thoughts? Thanks again!

Thought I should add, these tires are 195/55 15s. I'm not worried about driving in deep snow, but more concerned about slush and ice.

Do you already have dedicated wheels you're mounting these on? If not, I'd suggest ordering one of the "preferred" 14" packages from Tire Rack. For around $500, you can have Altimax Artics mounted and balanced on steel wheels and shipped to your door in a couple of days. This also makes it much easier when it comes time to remove them and reinstall the "rest of year" setup.

If you do already have the wheels, your estimate of saving approximately $100 is accurate if you order the Artics from Tire Rack and have them mounted locally. Tire Rack also provides a list of recommended installers and their guaranteed pricing is provided on the website.
