16x7 tire size...

What's the widest you can go with 16x7s?

I've searched and it looks like a 205 is what people are running with this setup.

The Fit Sport comes with stock 15" rims and 195/55-15 tires. The outer tire diameter is 23.4".

For 16x7" rims and for an outer tire diameter of about 23.5"

205/45-16 fits rims 6.5-7.5" wide 23.2" outer tire diameter

215/40-16 fits rims 7-8.5" wide 22.8" outer tire diameter- see BF Goodrich g-force sport (ultra High Perf Summer tire at Tirerack.com)
340 treadwear AA traction 25 pounds $77 each special price.

215/45-16 fits rims 7-8" wide 23.6" outer tire diameter- see Dunlop Direzza DZ101 (ultra High Perf Summer tire at Tirerack.com)
300 treadwear A traction 21 pounds $113 each.

Tirerack.com test result comparing Direzza with BFG g-Force sport

If you have lots of potholes in the roads of your area try the 45 series tires.

195/50 seems to be the best setup for the fit. We've had the 205/45's on there and they rubbed like crazy.

the 195 gave it that extra bit of clearance by the outer fender.

For 205/45 the rubbing might be related to wheel offset. Closer to +45mm would be safer than anything less than +45mm.

Wheel alignment with more negative camber would help a little and the rim width would be a factor. The wider the rim the more the tire will fit wide even with a 195mm tire vs 205mm tire.

Just got my Enkei J10's on today (16x7 +42).

The dude I ordered them from had Falkens put on them (don't remember specifically which). When driving home, I felt a teeny bit higher off the road, and the brakes felt a little "weaker."

Got home and looked at the sidewall: 205-50/R16. Bigger by 0.7" diameter, and 60mph on the speedo = 61.7mph actual... but they visually fill the wheel-well REALLY nicely... and no rubbing.

Thoughts?

If the speedo error doesn't bug you and you like how it looks then I guess it's OK. I'm still pretty chicken about rubbing and think I may go 195/50-16 when my wheels show up.

I lied.

Or, more specifically, I did finally experience a little rubbing. It was at a high-speed, and the suspension pretty much bottomed out due to a big dip in the road. It sorta irked me, but i'm not worried.

50 seems too chunky.. 45 is perfect i'd say.

Just installed 205/45 x 16 Toyo Proxes 4 on 16 x 7 Emotion CR Kai wheels (+35 offset) on stock suspension. Looks great with no fender rubbing (yet). I originally ordered a +44 offset, but no luck.

Looks like problems might surface should I lower the suspension. Looking into an Eiback "Pro-Kit".

Any comments/suggestions from FiT gurus out there? TIA.

Ap12na2, suspension of the car is still stock; no problem except when going over speed humps with passengers at rear seats. There is a slight contact between rear tires and fender lips.

Looks like I will need to roll the fenders if I decide to lower the car....thinking about the Eibach Pro-Kit.
