Hood Security Switch

Looking through the Chilton's manual online, I came across a test for the hood security switch. I thought that might be for a warning light that would tell when the hood wasn't completely fastened. I think it's just part of the anti-theft system, so that if the hood is opened at the wrong time, the alarm will sound. Too bad. I thought it would be a good idea to have a warning light for an unsecured hook. Since the wiring is there, I wonder if a DIY would be possible.

For a short time, my hood would seem fully closed, but I could not get the security beep or flash to occur. It lasted for a few days and never came back. I made sure all the doors and hatch were fully closed so I attributed it to this mechanism.

I still would prefer the plunger type switch for a hood alarm. At least the thief would have no idea where that would be located.

My alarm kept going off after being parked for some hours in cold weather. Turns out this is common. I just cut the wire and covered the end. End of problems.

Nope, I just cut it and wrapped the end in electrical tape.

thanks I'll try tomorrow by unplugging the connector see if that would let the car believe that the hood is close.
UPDATE: I disconnected the latch connector. And its been couple of days and no problems at all. This is a temporary solution. If any of you in a situation where you don't want to disconnect your battery.
