painting rim

At first I was looking into plasti dipping the rims myself. After watching videos on everything involved, I'm starting to lean towards taking into a shop for painting.

A couple questions. First, it looks like shops don't offer plasti dip. The ones I've found just say 'paint' rim. No mention of plasti dip. I also don't see any mention of matte options.

Is plasti dip proprietary? So only licensed shops can do it?

I'm going to call around to get some quotes tomorrow, but I'm curious about what the price tag will be. Anyone had theirs done? It will be fore 16in wheels, '09 Fit.

Any red flags to lookout for at shops?

Plasti Dip is a DIY product, sprayable removable synthetic rubber coating. It has inferior durability compared to real non-removable paints professional paint shops are offering.

Copy that.

Have you had either done?

You can find plastidip places with this: https://www.dipyourcar.com/#store-locator
You can at least call and get a quote if you find a local place.

Ive had wheels painted with paint and plastidip, if the paint work is done correctly I’ve never had an issue. Plastidip hasn’t been as durable but it wasn’t tough to fix any issues either.

I've had wheels done many times in paintshops with a paint. Both steel and alloy wheels.

Most shops will powder coat wheels, I don't know of any that will actually plasti dip wheels. Plasti dip is more DIY like others have said, it isn't very durable and after a while it will start to peel off. Powder coating is the much better route to go, high durability and you can go just about any color you can think of. Shop around at different shops in your area to get quotes. Good luck!
