Fit suitable for RallyCross events? I am trying to learn what mods would be needed to a a manual stick Fit - VTec or not VTec - to make it a competing car for Rally Cross events.
In recent events here in Canada, unmodified Yaris were running in a "2 WD" class. I ahve to think a Fit could deliver more power per pound of mass.
A buddy of mine took his Fit to rallycross... Did some bad damage bottoming out on a jump (I think he cracked his oil pan) so YMMV... Seems a bit crazy to get a skid plate if you're just going once or twice, but if it's a regular thing, maybe some protection is warranted.
I've done rallycross in the states using my stock '08 Fit Sport.
Here in the states, most rallycross is done on flat ground, so you don't need to worry about jumps and such. Lots of minor scraping to the front bumper, but nothing major.
I did loose my front bumper going through the finish line at my last event and dragged it under the car for a while, though it wasn't hooked on nearly as well as it should have been. It has since been repaired with zip ties. Even with this happening, I'll totally be going back!
As far as my research goes, the Honda Fit should be very competitive in the stock front category due to it's very stiff frame and short wheelbase. If you want to go faster, throw some snow tires on. If you want to protect it, get a skid plate, and if it's allowed in stock class, remove some of the lowest part of the front bumper. Most, if not all, of the people I've seen in stock classes don't bother adding a skid plate or anything. It really just depends on where you'll be racing.
I'd ask the locals who have been to the location to see if ground clearance would be an issue. That's what I did.
Hope this helps!
