This Rod Knock?

I wasnt really sure where to post this. Today Im in the drive-thru for Chick-Fil-A. (Yummm) Im pulling up to the window. Rev up to about 1800-2g's and slowly pull up when I hear a knocking.

Right away Im like; "OMG, rod knock!"

They tell me my food will take a minute so I sit there revving slightly to 2000rpms, letting off and revving again. I hear it everytime. Its not going away. It deff. sounds like its in the block or at least the lower half of the motor.

Its really faint but I can hear it everytime. I guess I'll take it in on Wens since its my day off. This is going to really suck. Id hate to have motor internals warrantied on my VIN. Well. I hope they warranty it.

Mine makes a bit of top-end noise that you can hear when you are up against a wall/building/cliff etc.

Trust me, a rod knock you will know when you hear it.

BTW, I noticed the tag on your Mazda. Are you Dutch?

Spun rod bearing, the slap makes the noise:

YouTube - Rod knock

When they get quiet is when you worry. I had a Toyota 5S-FE do that once, could see daylight through the block in three places below piston #4 once I extricated the motor.

I use 87 also. I dont think the Fit needs anything higher unless you get a lot of mods maybe.

I guess it isnt knock... Ive heard knock before. I was just thinking since the Fit is a 1.5L the rods are tiny. So knock wouldnt make that much noise.

No; Im not Dutch. I got a few tags sent to me from a friend of mine from the Netherlands. Hes a 626 Coupe freak!

I wish I didnt give my friend (VBP RSX) my US sized Dutch tag. It would look sexy on my Fit.

I hear this to every so often. I beleive its the evap canister purge valve opening and closing. Sounds like a valve tap but isn't.

yeah for some reason these lil motors tend to get pretty noisy

its more than likely just the valves then tap pretty loud haha. so yeah shouldnt be anything to worry about.

If it sounds loud, or unusual should you have the valves adjusted? I didn't think you had to adjust valves like you used to on old cars. I checked online with Honda owner link and it says that the valves should be adjusted only if they're noisy. I notice it during idle being louder than I remember. What do you guys think?

ITS THE EVAP PURGE VAVLE trust me.... i just bought a new one cause mine is out of control loud..... i thought it was a exhaust vavle that tighthen up.... i took everything apart and checked all the tolerences on the valves and one was a bit tight but everything else was fine. i put everything back together and the ticking was still there. so i diconect the purge silenoid while the car was idleing and bam the noise went away... the part from honda is about 75 bucks.... mine is ticking really bad so im replacing it.

I saw your Florida location right after that post.

I also wondered, as the tag on your car was issued in 1991 and your car was a 1989. I have stacks of Dutch tags (private, govt, dealer, export, military, etc.) but the new EU plates are hard to get. Yeah, you should have kept the US sized one.

I had exactly the same problem on my 1995 Mitsu. Eclipse GS-T. It was the evap can solenoid. I bought a new one and it fixed the problem. I sure did sound like a noisy lifter though!
