Hint for older Cold Country Fit Batteries

As my Fit battery is going into it's 4th.winter and still reads o.k I wanted a little backup.

I used a 5w solar battery trickle charger for many years on my Celebrity
when I was still working. They run about $70 CDN at Cantire, Princess Auto, etc. Comes with a blocking diode.

But I cover my Fit in winter and there was no place inside
that the PVC panel would get sunlight so I decided to perm. mount
it onto my mobile home on the south wall.

I ran the power cord to where I plug my block htr. in and used a 12V
snap connecter for testing. I will change it over to a 12V socket from an RV supplier for winter.

In testing the batt. voltage, it read 12.32V b4 hookup and 13.72V
in full sun. (-5C)

Add; I was able to use 1/4" ring terminals on the hookup wire plus 2 nuts so I did not need
to disturb the battery terminals at all.

And it dawns on me that I now have a 12V power source outside the car if needed.
(I once ran my cottage 12V lights from a sim. system on my 750 Honda. LOL)

good idea. I do the same thing with my boat batteries when I pull them for the winter. I mounted the panel on the south side of my garage outside and run the wire in and to the little wooden battery stand i built to keep them off of the concrete.
