Disable headlights temporarily

Disable headlights temporarily
I've got a 2010 Fit LX and need to be able to disable the headlights temporarily only for when I'm approaching areas where telescopes are being used (as there are very strict no white light policies for preserving everyone's night vision). I've read about people pulling fuses to disable the daytime running lights, but is there any other way? I just need to temporarily disable the lights once or twice a month only when driving up and leaving the observatory.
I'd heard from other people with different car makes that sometimes there are tricks with the parking break and certain ignition sequences that can disable the lights...any truth to this?
Thanks.

I think this has been discussed before.
If it were my FIT I would rig up shades to fasten over the lights. Blackout cloth cut to fit with tabs to fasten between the housing and the body [bit of a gap there that Honda utilizes the same way to secure the front end mask] could work. Might be better than messing with the electrics.

There may be an override in there somewhere. I had a 2003 Sonoma with DRLs. You could override them by pushing the "dome override" button (a toggle button that kept the dome-light from coming on with the doors) 4 times within 6 seconds.

If you plan to do this a lot, then I might suggest wiring in an override switch on the DRL fuse you'd pull to disable it.
I have instructions on my blog on how to do disable DRL on a GD Fit. But I'm sure you can find the instructions easy enough for your GE.
To wire in an override, just find the fuse you'd pull to disable DRL, go behind it and cut one side of the wire, and wire in a switch inline.
