new '13 base manual. trying to make a mpg machine
i just bought a 2013 base manual and im looking to maximize my mpgs. i have started by looking at lightweight wheels and tires. what other things can be done to squeeze out extra mpgs?

TBH i'd just keep the stock steelies and put Moon discs on them for aerodynamics. The stock steel wheels are fairly light, like 17 lbs. Get some skinny LRR tires.
There's not a ton of stuff you need to do to make the Fit very economical, from my experience though, wheels and tires make the biggest difference in MPG. I got LIGHT wheels but sporty tires and my MPG took a significant hit with the softer compound and wider width.
Before that I could get 40mpg easy with a MT.

Look into aerodynamic underbody panels. You'll have to fabricate your own, or adapt the CRZ or Insight pieces.
Buy a Scangauge or Ultragauge and let it teach you how to drive. There's a lot available by adjusting the Nut behind the wheel.
Try higher tire pressure. Add a few pounds and see how you like it.

Mine runs 36.5 average driving county highways with stoplights (35 to 55mph). On long trips, I gennerally end up over 40mpg, this last one was 41.8. And that is running 205/50r16 UHP all seasons.
I
If you are doing a lot of starting and stopping, lightweight wheels and tires will make a big difference, out on the highway, smooth driving, drafting and not driving too fast are where it is at.
A lot can be gained by learning to drive efficently.

well the driver is 99% of where all the gains are. I don't consider myself a hypermiler but I am a conscientious and efficient driver (with a penchance for carrying too much speed through corners ). So far at 6 years of ownership, I've averaged well over 40mpg. I dropped to 0w20 oil and got a measurable improvement and recently adding a K&N short ram has bumped me 2mpg so far (bit surprised but the stock filter was filthy). Other than that, the car is stock. I've gutted out other cars and done extreme weight savings and I have to say, unless it was rotational mass, it made zero impact on real world efficiency.
