Insight AC

Does anyone know if there is a mod to make the Insight electric AC fit in a Fit? I understand that the AC unit is about $1500. But it would take that extra drag off the engine wouldn't it?

You're robbing from Peter to pay Paul - so to speak.

What changes is the load on the engine where the compress cycles. When the current engine-driven compressor cycles on, there is an instantaneous load on the engine, that you can "feel". When it kicks off, you can feel that, as well.

With an electric A/C compressor, the engine load is shifted from the engine-driven A/C compressor to the alternator, where it is in a steady state of charge to provide the power for the compressor.

It is the same load, just more constant rather than cycling.

Hope that helps.
