Key question ?

I bought a used 09 Sport, the dealer only had (1) key fob. At the time it didn't bother me. Now however, I would like a second key fob. Not at all wanting to pay a Honda dealer $210., I bought one online with all the guts and battery, and had it cut. Exact same as my original. Ok I was able to reprogram the keyless part myself, but the key part won't start the car, it's immobilized. Is there a code or something for the ignition?

Yes the ignition has an imobilizer which the key code needs to match. This is why it cost $210.

Ok, I got that, so is there anyway to go around the dealer and buy a transponder chip with my number?

You can call your dealer and ask them if they can program it for you, which I believe is less than $100. The $200+ quote is for the key, cutting, and programming (at least it was when I asked). I found an independent shop that did the whole thing for $140.

Thanks for the info. Before I try the Dealer, how can I find my transponder chip number?
