Dealer lost one of my key
Dealer lost one of my key
Hi Guys,
Just got my Blackberry last Friday but when I took delivery the dealership can only find one of the keys.
They told me that they'll mail the rest of the stuff (key, key chain and case for the manual) to me as soon as they found the key.
Call them up yesterday and the sales person told me that they still can't find the second key and will talked with his manager about getting a new one cut for me.
Do you think this is OK? I'm a bit concerned since this mean whoever have that "missing" key will have access to my car.
Or am I just being a little bit paranoid about it.
What would you guys do?
Thanks

It's probably in some sales guy's pocket. Have them check the last person who took it out for a spin. OR, the transport guy who drove it over to the shop to have it unwrapped and cleaned for you.
Someone there has it and you should get it back. Otherwise, they are liable for any loss you happen to have should the car get stolen. If they don't find it within one more day, have a lawyer write a simple leter so that you get 2 keys and a re-worked ignition.

I am sure this has happened before but personally I do not know if I could safely accept the car- always in the back of my mind- is where is the other orginal key- one thing to lose it yourself after taking delivery- your fault then if anything happens- but before you accept it- I do not know
what I would do.
The only safe thing is- refuse delivery- and get another car from the same dealer (just make sure it is not the same VIN) or another dealer

First time it happened to me and I got the car late in the evening. The salesperson said that all the prep guys already left for the day so he can't ask them.
Too late to refuse delivery now so I guess I'll call them again tomorrow and ask them to re-key the car if they have not found it yet.
Thank you everybody for the help and suggestion.

Sounds like somebody removed "the jacket" from the cabinet.
Second set of keys is kept along the car manual and attached documentation in "jackets" under a lock and key accessible usually only by a finance manager and/or general sales manager. First set of keys is normally in the key machine (secured and requiring employee pin code for access) or hanging on the key's board.
Somebody must have been interested in the car and salesman got a hold of the jacket thinking that he is preventing the sale by holding on to it until his customer is ready. Must be a rookie!

That is a possibility.
I wonder how many rookies they have on this dealership...I'm the first customer for the one that I dealed with.
Anyway, I'll call them tomorrow and see what's going on.
Thanks for the insight. Now I'll sound knowledgable when talking with them
