Valet Key?

Question for anyone who might know. I'm looking to get a valet key for my fit in case somehow both keys get locked in. I just want a key made to leave inside my house that only does the doors and not the ignition, so no programming needed. I talked to my local dealership parts guy and he said if I could find a Fit blank key, he'd cut me a valet for free. Anyone know of any places to get a blank and how much they cost? The parts guy told me he wasn't able to get them anymore for some reason.

BTW...I did search for 'valet', but couldn't really find too much useful information.

The dealer cant get you a valey key. Darn as i was about to go to the dealer and ask for one to be made for my Fit Sport. When ever iam on a trip i like to have a door key in my wallet and keep a regular set hidden inside the car so if i lose my main set of keys i have the wallet key to open the door(dont care if alarm goes off) then i can get at my other set of keys hidden in car. Iam going to dealer tomarrow and see if i get the same answer you did. I hope not.

there is no valet key because you have nothing that can be locked inside the car; no glove box lock no fuel door release. they should be able to get a blank and cut it though, ilco makes a blank number ho01-scv. its just a soild metal jobber looking blank that will open your doors but not start your car, although you could turn on the ignition.

Like stated, technically what you're looking for wouldn't be a valet key, just any key without the immobilizer programmed. Valet keys are only supposed to unlock the door and start the ignition but not unlock glove boxes or fuel door releases & trunk. However, my 06 Civic came with a gray key that only did the doors and ignition. It had no buttons on the end of it. Sounds like this key is what the dealer was refering to, not sure why they can't get access to them anymore. Try looking around on ebay or something similar. At the worst just get another key made anyway.

the gray key is a valet key. the valet keys are a different thickness than the regular ones, thats why they wont work in the glove box and trunk of other honda models. but youre right, if they want a key that will open the doors but will not start the car you just have to cut any honda sidewinder key but not program it

Just got back from Dealer. Even the base model Fit has a chip on the key and cost 50 bucks. Iam now seeing if i can get a key to open my door from Ilco that i could keep in my wallet.

Still no luck

I guess iam the only one who wants a key for my wallet that can open the door. So when traveling i can hide a regular set of keys inside car. That way wallet key gets me into car to get hidden spare regular set of keys.

Cant find any place to get just a meta key to open door. 50 bucks just for base model key (that has chip in it too) . Even though i have never needed my wallet key i had for my Honda CRV, i sure would like one on trips.

Maybe you could get an acura flip out key insert. It pretty much is a sidewinder key blank with a loop on the end. No chip it in, so I wouldn't think it is very expen$ive.

Edit: this is what I was talking about, turns out it does have a chip in it. Maybe an Acura dealer can get a PN for you:

after the first time i locked my keys in my car i learned to always keep a spare in my wallet. for about 6 bucks the dealer cut me a key without the chip. it looks like the metal part and the plastic fob come separately, so i just bought the metal part for my doors.

(picture borrowed from Mugen Dom's post)

take the fob apart and the metal part comes out. if nothing else, print off the pic and take it to the dealer for description. i have dealt with soo many idiots working in parts cages. hopefully this will help you out.

problem solved

I went to the dealer i bought my car from, farther away than the first dealer i went too. He didnt know if you could even order just the metal part for the key with remote. BUT he did have a sidewinder key from another car that sold for $20 suggested retail. He gave me a break and sold it for 17.95 with tax. He thought this key had a chip in it too. But i cut off the plastic part of the key so it fits in my wallet better and there was no chip or electonics of any kind in it. But at least i now have a wallet key that cost about 17 bucks, not to bad.

valet keys

I had a "valet" key made at the Honda Dealership for $10. It's not a real valet key, and can't start the car, but it can unlock the doors. I needed one because I go surfing, biking, or ocean swimming a lot, and need a key that is waterproof. The real keys have an electronic chip for the immobilizer system, plus the electronics for the power door locks. I hide the real key in the car, and then carry the valet key with me.
