Key question
Hi all,
Newbie here from New Zealand: I have a 2005 Honda Fit (Jap import) and the corner of the key where you put other keys etc has broken (the plastic part has broken off if that makes sense) - this is my electronic key, and when I went to the local dealer to ask if the plastic head could be replaced, he said no, I have to get a whole new key - is this right, or can the plastic part be replaced ? Many thanks.

That is a typical Dealer response. If your JDM car has an immobilizer as USA cars do, it needs to be programmed to the car, else the engine will be inhibited from starting.
Your possibilities are to
1. Buy a key at the dealer or off Ebay, swap out the cover only. (The covers can be removed same as if you were replacing the battery for the remote, search for a How-To on this)
2. buy a new key from a locksmith (who would match the actual key to your old one, dealer might still have to program it)
BTW think about "upgrading" to a Switchblade type of key as used in some upmarket Hondas, they are smaller.
