Today after work I mounted the LED lightbar properly to the front of our Jazz, as I want it to come on with the high beam I ran the relay "trigger" to the LHS high beam terminal...
Now, the lightbar functioned great and came on with the high beam but now the driving / fog light on the same side appears to have blown?
I'll be the first to admit that anything over wiring up a car stereo is not my strength, but this should have been simple.
For one thing... you're not mentioning how you wired it up.
If it isn't already, try finding the wire that ONLY becomes live when high beam is ON. Cut it and put the trigger wires from the relay in between. That way, power will ONLY flow through one, and then the other.
If you try any other way (like one wire to the common and another wire to the other side of the filament), you risk a short.
Another option is to forget about the headlights and just install a switch in the car to trigger the relay.
Huh thanks for the info. I have had some electrical problems with my car as well. I have had a lot of problems with my car and electrical appliances in general for the past couple of weeks. It was honestly the worst timing possible. I just moved to my new home in the new state (I loved to North Carolina for a job opportunity) and I have had a lot of work to do with the house. It is kind of old and it needs a lot of TLC and so when my car broke down I was really upset. While I took my car to the shop I passed an ad for a local electrical company called Bates Electric Charleston. Since I was kind of out of options and the lights in my house kept flickering I gave them a call. I have set up a meeting and the representative from the company came over made an estimate and started work in a few days. He is still helping me fix the wiring in my house and my car is ready for use so things are finally looking up. Yay to me.
