Does the upper bearing need to be replaced when replacing struts?

I need to replace my struts. I've called around for quotes. Someone mentioned that their price included replacing the upper bearing. That made me question the prices I'd been given, and whether I need to replace these as a matter of course.

Thanks for your reponse.

How many miles are on the original? If I was paying someone I might get them done. You are getting quotes on Monroe or KYB struts?

Struts

I don't know how many miles on the current set. I'm the fourth owner.

KYB.

They most likely have been quoting the quick strut type since it's easier for them. How many miles on the car? Honda struts are good for 100k. Is the ride bouncy.

Struts

111k miles. I've had the Fit for about 10k miles, and it does seem a little loose at speed. I always chalked it up to being a small vehicle, but it could definitely be a suspension thing.

Thanks for all the responses.

It's a cheap part, replace it. It's a wear item. If your car was brand new and you were just replacing the springs to lower it then I'd say it would be OK to reuse what's on there. Your car isn't new and has 100K+ of parts that you don't know the condition of.

I think they do mention to "check" for deformation / weakness / damage / etc

I did my struts myself about a year ago. I bought the fully loaded ones, cheapest Rock Auto had and the they came with that top bushing. I would bet that all the shops are including the "Top Bearing" aka that upper rubber bushing. Even if they are not, it wont make a differance. The ones I took out of my car were fine, with 250K on them.
